This isn’t just any new racing car: Formula 4 signals a massive shift for junior motor sport in Australia. New for 2015, the F4 championship only designed to be a cheaper, safer and faster first step after karts for young racers on the road to F1. THE WHEELS VERDICT It looks, and goes, like a mini F1 car. To FIA standards: front and rear impact absorbing structures, anti-intrusion front and side panels, roll hoops, removable seat, head restraint, wheel restraint cables, accident data recorder, on-board fire extinguisher, retractable steering wheel and column. The British series uses Mygale chassis (owned by Crawford manufacturer Onroak) and Ford engines, but all F4 cars in the 13 global series are built to the same FIA specs.
