Usotsuki Lily is the feel good shoujo manga that i'v been waiting for, and it's a shame that it currently remains almost completely unknown.
The story follows the popular manga gender bending concept with a twist: What if the girl actually accepts a young man as a woman AND her boyfriend?
This isn't just a story where a man cross dresses sometimes for fun, but rather, it is a part of his personality and he is compelled in his heart to take on a female identity. He still likes women and must struggle with his female identity pushing them away. Luckily, he meets Hinata, who is able to see past this. The two begin dating while both are dressed as women in public.
I find this manga more interesting than your typical gender bending series because it appears to examine gender identity in depth rather than turning it into a cheap plot device or a gag. It shows the struggles that a young person who defies their gender identify goes through both internally and externally.
So far, the characters are what drives Usotsuki Lily, and for good reason. Our protagonist Hinata is not your typical flowery self insert. She is a strong willed, independent woman with a big heart and an open mind. The lead male En is also very interesting and courageous despite his delicate demeanor. You can't help but wonder what fuels his hatred for men and why he chose to get close to a girl like Hinata. The two play reverse roles, with her as the protector and En as the lovestruck heroine.
I had been waiting to read this series for about a month now, and not only was every page of it thrilling and adorable, but deeply enjoyable and a pleasure to read. The art is stunning and the story is coming together well. Hopefully this is a series that will not only manage to go on for a long time, but gain many more fans in the west.

Usotsuki Lily is very unusual manga that takes a typical gender bender shoujo and puts its own twist on it. I say unusual because it's not a story that everyone could get into right off the bat, but once one opens their mind to something a little out of the ordinary, it's truly worth it.
Story: 8
Its centered around a girl named Hinata who accepts a love confession in the first chapter from a boy named En, to only later find out the her new boyfriend has an intense interest in crossdressing.
The basis of the manga is the relationship between these two and how they overcome the difficulties their faced with down the road (the story has more to it then just this though). Overall, the story is absolutely hilarious! Its one of those manga where one doesn't go a single chapter without laughing, whether its simply giggling or laughing hysterically. It also beaks the fourth wall a lot in the manga, so in a way, its kinda like a parody on shoujo manga. With that being said, I did cry in some chapters because of super sweet and some sad moments. The author does a great job by not putting in 'shoujo drama', making this manga such a fun read. It takes the gender bender genre to a new level with going into topics like what makes a guy a guy and what makes a girl a girl despite the obvious difference. It sends the message to readers that no matter who you are as a person, you deserve and will find, love.

The art was obviously very shoujo like, hence thats it's genre, but it was very well done. The manga is filled with super hot guys and adorable/hot girls, in which the author did a great job in drawing them.
Characters:
This manga dosen't neglect any of their characters, to the point where it even jokes on who the main character of the story really is. Even each of the 'secondary characters' gets more than one chapter centered on just them. Honestly, I can't decide on who my favorite character is, since all of them are unique and adorable in their own way.

Like I said before, this manga is really funny. So who does't enjoy a manga to its fullest when it makes one laugh. I actually couldn't stop reading it after the first few chapters, because it just hooks you so quick.

I give it an 8 overall and not a 9 or 10, because when it comes down to it, its a really just a fun read. Its not anything serious and it doesn't have a compelling story. However, that does't mean its not still really good...it was just not meant to be that type of manga (not everything can be a masterpiece like mars and nana). With that being said, I really loved reading Usotsuki lily!

I love this manga but at the same time I don't.
The story is actually quite unique. There may be lots of gender-bender-slash-cross-dressing mangas out there but once you're into the story you'll know.
The art was the best. If you're looking for a romance manga filled with good looking creatures, read usolily.
I love the romance of the manga too. But here's my real review which mostly ranting of the parts I didn't like, at all.
First of all. The story is about a girl,Hinata, dating En, a cross dressing guy who hates guys to the point he hates seeing his own reflection. The part I hate was that as a reader of course I want and have to know... Why? Which I believe was not explained. If it was, it wasn't clear because I swear I do not understand. Worse thing, he doesn't change until the end. Don't expect that the girl is someone who changes him. She just accepts him like it was a normal thing. But still I believe that, that is part of what the story teaches, accepting your love and the person you love and giving your all.
Second, I hated that the story wasn't actually just about them. Really. Don't be fooled by the description. It was about all of them! Like ALL of them. Even the characters you think would just come and go suddenly gets a whole arc. It was just annoying. They have like a chapter or two then suddenly it has become another characters manga. Although mostly those characters are Hinata and En's whole gang. Still, I even almost didn't notice their development because of the other stories. It felt like, for me, because of the sudden changes in arcs that the character development of our couple was not focused at. All you'll be able to read are romance developments, like the whole story is just there to make you feel the love and not the characters. I just wished there were more character development. I mean maybe I could've seen more of them, how they change. But from start to end it was the same! They liked each other, Hinata accepts En as a cross dressing (pervert xD), En is a stupid cross dressing guy and we still don't know why he hates men so much. All that happens in a chapter for them is that there comes another conflict and in the end they'll grow to love each other more(Though I didn't feel it much either)
Lastly. I was annoyed at the last chapter! I loved the ending of course but somehow I feel annoyed.
USOLILY IS A MUST READ. Please don't misunderstand this review. It was good. I even gave it a 9! Haha. I actually like it though it didn't seem so.
Overall story is 10! It was really funny. It's unique. And it teaches you a lot in love.
Art is 10. I mean really, even girls here are too handsome and hot.

What's not to read? I just ranted my thoughts because I loved the manga but for some reason I didn't too. So I wrote this. Confusing, no? But please do read it even after you've read my complaints!!

The title is actually a play on words. Usotsuki meaning liar and lily, which actually means yuri (translation of yuri is lily). So the title is actually Liar Lesbian essentially because that's what the story is about. The heroin, Hinata, was confessed by the hottie En, the 'hero' (doesn't sound nice like heroin). Hinata accepted the confession because she has a thing for hot looking guys. What she didn't know was that En has a problem, he detest boys so much that he cross dresses into a beautiful girl. Thus the romantic story of two appearing 'lesbians' in their everyday life. Hense the usotsuki in the title cuz it isn't.

Shinogara En loves women--and hates men so much that even looking at his own manly reflection in a mirror brings on such uncontrollable rage that he immediately tries to destroy it. It's a premise that one must take with a grain of salt, especially since he does not go around school punching every boy he sees.
Even outside of its premise, Usotsuki Lily is an unconventional manga. Outwardly, it seems like your standard romcom with a twist, but all of Hinata's friends are in happy relationships, there is no two-faced female rival, no poor male admirer who almost--but not quite--steals Hinata away. The couple tries to communicate most of the time. It's quite a refreshing and light-hearted read, with most conflicts coming up and being resolved in one chapter. The characters frequently break the fourth wall, reminding you to not take it too seriously.
I don't actually think it's a particularly deep manga. This is not to say that serious moments don't happen, but in general, it's the type I would read slowly, at a couple of chapters a day, like a snack. Or as a way to cheer myself up. I find it an enjoyable read and recommend giving it a try.
(I am, however, only 27 chapters in. I feel like it's going to continue this way but we'll see!)

This is a perfect manga! This could easily become a popular anime to. It's an unusual gender bender with a couple that cross dresses alot mainly the guy though. The romance in this starts in the very beginning and as theanga continues there love grows as they start to think of life after high school. They can't stand to be without each other and the smallest fights will sadden them. I really recommend you read this if you have an interest in romance and slice of life you should really really read this it's my all time favorite manga.. I really wish this had an anime adaptation. I wonder if I could make some kind of petition for it or something but no matter this is a great manga I promise you you'll love it so at least give it a try.
